After the ‘storm’ of criticism against GPT-5, OpenAI quickly calms users

OpenAI Addresses Community Concerns Following GPT-5 Launch

In light of the recent launch of the GPT-5 model, OpenAI has acknowledged several challenges that arose during the rollout. Following a wave of criticism from users, particularly those subscribed to the ChatGPT Plus package, OpenAI has announced significant changes to ChatGPT to address community feedback.

Key Changes Announced by OpenAI:

  1. Increased Usage Limits: Effective this weekend, message limits for Plus and Team users will be doubled, allowing for more interactions with the model.
  2. Reintroduction of GPT-4o: The previously popular GPT-4o model will return, and Team users can enable it via the ‘Show legacy models’ option on the web interface.
  3. Deployment of “Mini” Versions: Next week, “mini” versions of GPT-5 will be introduced, enabling users to continue chatting after reaching the limits set for the full model.
  4. Enhanced Model Selection: A new main model selector will simplify access to GPT-5 Thinking and Pro models for users.

In a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) session, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman addressed many questions from the community. He indicated that he would closely monitor the usage of GPT-4o to determine future support for this model.

Additionally, OpenAI has hinted at the possibility of introducing a new paid plan, priced between $20 and $200, to accommodate a broader audience. The company also acknowledged technical issues with the model converter at launch, which initially affected feedback quality.

When it comes to supporting longer contexts, OpenAI noted that while they haven’t seen significant demand for this feature yet, limitations in computing power (GPU) necessitate prioritizing other enhancements.

These prompt and transparent adjustments showcase OpenAI’s commitment to addressing user concerns while navigating the complexities of innovation for its extensive user base of approximately 700 million worldwide.
