iOS 26 adds useful features to iPhone

Apple has recently released the second beta version of iOS 26, introducing significant enhancements, including a new feature called Recovery Assistant.

While instances of iPhones failing to boot are relatively rare, they typically stem from software issues. Traditionally, users have needed a computer to resolve such problems. Recovery Assistant aims to streamline this process by enabling users to troubleshoot boot issues directly on their devices, eliminating the reliance on external hardware.

This innovative feature assists users whose iPhones encounter startup problems, particularly beneficial for those who primarily use their iPhone as their main device and may not have access to a computer for recovery procedures. Recovery Assistant functions by allowing users to identify and resolve these startup issues without needing another device, such as a Mac or PC.

The Recovery Assistant can be seen as an enhanced version of the existing recovery feature that allows users to fix their iPhones using another iPhone or iPad. However, its key advantage lies in its independence, functioning entirely on its own.

Apple has been developing this feature for several years. In February 2020, an iOS beta revealed code suggesting the potential for “OS Recovery” without a computer. Additionally, rumors in 2021 hinted at an “Internet Recovery” capability, allowing users to reset unresponsive iPhones via a wireless connection.

For comparison, Android users are familiar with recovery modes that provide solutions for boot issues, while devices like Galaxy and OnePlus phones feature more advanced diagnostic tools. The introduction of Recovery Assistant in iOS 26 marks a significant advancement for Apple.

Currently, iOS 26 is in its developer beta phase, with a public beta anticipated in July and a stable release expected in the fall.
