Leaked images of Xbox version of Meta Quest 3S VR glasses

Microsoft and Meta are reportedly gearing up to launch a special edition of the Meta Quest 3S, which will feature a collaboration with Xbox. Recent leaks, as reported by GameRant, indicate that this edition could be positioned within Microsoft’s new hardware partnership strategy.

The device, tentatively titled the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition, has been showcased in leaked images on the social media platform X. The packaging reveals an all-black design accented with green borders, prominently featuring the Xbox logo. In addition to the headset, the package is expected to include an Xbox controller, an Elite strap, and a three-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Sources suggest that the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition could be launched on June 24, with a retail price of $399. This edition will likely maintain the same specifications as the standard Quest 3S, which includes 128 GB of internal storage. The headset is designed as an entry-level VR option, aimed at new users, offering the ability to operate independently without needing to connect to a computer or console.

In comparison to competitors like the PlayStation VR2, which is currently priced at $400, the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition boasts advantages such as portability and standalone functionality. However, while it may not feature exclusive games, it should be compatible with the Quest’s existing game library and support Xbox Cloud Gaming, adding value for users.

The partnership rumors between Microsoft and Meta first emerged in April 2024, following Meta’s announcement of plans to license its Horizon OS to external manufacturers, with Xbox being positioned as one of the early partners. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg had previously alluded to the collaboration, expressing intentions for Xbox to launch a limited-edition Quest device that integrates with Xbox Cloud Gaming and Game Pass.

This strategy reflects Microsoft’s broader approach to expanding the Xbox ecosystem through partnerships with external manufacturers, rather than solely focusing on developing proprietary hardware.
