Users are complaining about battery drain and overheating issues on iOS 26.5.2.

The recent iOS 26.5.2 update, released by Apple on June 29th, has sparked considerable concern among iPhone users regarding battery performance and overheating issues. Originally intended to address over 25 critical security vulnerabilities related to the system kernel and the WebKit browser engine, the update has, unfortunately, led to reports of rapid battery drain and excessive device heating.

Many users are actively discussing these problems on social media platforms. For example, a Reddit user named ‘Miserable_Impact,’ owner of an iPhone 16 Pro Max, noted a significant decline in his device’s battery life and has experienced extreme overheating, which he attributes not to external weather conditions but to the update itself. He highlighted that such battery drain and overheating often indicate that the system may be struggling due to a malfunctioning process.

In addition to potential operating system bugs, overheating could be caused by recently downloaded apps or updates to existing applications, such as Meta’s Facebook and Instagram. Some users have reportedly resolved these issues by switching to iOS 27 developer beta 3, although Apple emphasizes that beta versions can come with their own stability risks.

To diagnose your device’s battery performance, you can use Apple’s built-in battery check feature. Navigate to Settings > Battery > Show all battery usage to review a list of apps and their battery consumption. If certain apps show unusually high background activity that may contribute to overheating, adjustments can be made under the Background App Refresh settings in General Settings.

For those who have not yet updated to iOS 26.5.2, there are still options available to optimize battery life. Tech experts are hopeful that Apple will address the current feedback regarding battery and overheating concerns. Should a widespread issue be confirmed, it is likely that Apple will release a bug-fix update in the form of iOS 26.5.3 in the near future.
